rantings of a "nagpipilit" optimist

It's official.

I flunked my first biochem exam. Haha! :D

My "eeny-minying" didn't work. Why oh why? ;p

I'm scared. My optimism's down lately and it needs some boosting. Major.

Some things I wanna do for self-preservation (yeah...before I self-destruct):
1.) Get a haircut. --> It's difficult to get one especially since my sister's broke. I don't want to go to the salon alone...unless someone wants join me. :) Have to lend my sister moolah! =p
2.) Get a foot spa. --> That is after the rainy season's over. I don't want to get one and then soak my feet in flood water noh.
3.) Go to the dentist. --> I want to get braces again...at least for my lower teeth. They're looking weird lately. Have to really save my teeth (assets of long ago...haha! =P).
4.) Buy a stethoscope I regretted not buying. --> Bambang, here I come! :)
5.) Watch a movie (probably meet up with bes) and do some SERIOUS shopping. --> My "savings" wallet needs some draining. ;)

6.) Sing...videoke style. --> Hmm...how much does Magic Sing cost? Hehe! :D

Now, for future and long-term self-preservation, I shall read my books again.

To my brother-to-be (a.k.a. Marty), thanks for the barquiron. You've made me fat again. I'll be filing a case in court. See ya!

wishlist!!!

Oh my! This I like. :D

1 gig USB...5,700! Haha! That means, I'll lose 5,700 if it gets damaged. Wow!

I heard it's kinda selective for PCs though making it less functional. Therefore, this is for showing-off purposes only. =P

***

Another one...
How can Sony Ericsson do this to me? Wala pang one year phone ko...waah!

I want! I want! I'm drooling...

***

I really hope Taffy (one of my labs) gets well already. Dear God.

I want to go to El Pueblo McDo. Now na!

Gusto ko ng milkshake. =P

the week that was...again.

I've had one crazy week. Of suspended classes. TERRIBLE and great exams. Shopping and bus rides. DSL and Trojan Horses.

My exams were not so good...especially for my major subjects. Med isn't only tough. It's TOUGH! And I'm scared. There's pressure especially since I'm on a scholarship. But I'd like to think it's more on expectations for myself. Sheesh!

Oh well...I honestly am not good with the sciences.

But come to think of it, as I go one notch higher in my acad accomplishments, I lose interest in some subjects and gain interest in another. When I was in elementary and high school, I loved Math and hated Filipino. As in! When I went to UP, I loved my Filipino subjects and hated Math. Yeah...the first exam I flunked was for my Math 100 class. I flunked two exams if I'm not mistaken. Now, in med school, I have yet to find a favorite. In a few weeks time, the major things I've learned in college will be of no use already...for my acads at least. After the Neuro module, it will be all tabula rasa...so good luck to me.

In the middle of my three-day exam, I went shopping at Greenhills. Haha! :D And guess what? We got caught in the rush hour, rode a bus, and had a try at riding a bus while standing. Cathe and I were laughing during the whole time we were standing coz we're not used to that. Good thing we got a seat agad. But that experience is still funny. :p

And now, we've got DSL already. :) One of the first things I did when I logged in was to fix my computer and remove Trojan threats. Musta naman yon?!

That's not a bad omen.

strike two!

Two days straight of no classes. Two exam days delayed.

Oh c'mon! I should be happy right?

Except for the fact that I keep on changing the subjects I have to study for. Now, I have to change from Physio to Biochem. What next?!

I am troubled with the fact that I didn't know I have to get a test permit so I have to go to school early on Wednesday.

I am likewise troubled whether I should return 2 books in the library. Considered holiday naman diba? Otherwise, I'd have to pay 44 pesos already. That's for two days overdue of a circulation and a reserve book.

Dad already applied for a DSL...calling it "Diane Sorry Late" because it was supposed to be a birthday surprise, but it didn't come in time.

Ma keeps on saying that with a new phone line coming, we should disconnect our current number. I refuse. What if old acquaintances can't grab of our new number?

Now, I should be happy, right?

just another rainy monday

I haven't finished studying for my exams and as luck has it, there are no classes today. Haha! :)

I'm currently studying some powerpoint presentations so spare me the "go back to your books and study" dialogue.

But then again, the internet's kinda tempting. Lack of self-control I should say.

My dad already applied for a DSL so it will be more tempting next time. A late birthday gift raw that didn't come on time (and yeah...I'm supposed to follow up on it daw). He tells me he'll never subscribe and get a cable because I'm a TV addict but then again, he doesn't know, getting a DSL will be kinda similar. Hehe! :D

sleepy-ness

I'm having a really hectic week. Had 3 lab exams this week and 6 more lecture exams next week until Wednesday. Two subjects for each day. Shux! So like high school.

I've been a sleepy head lately...sleeping during my birthday party and sleeping last night while studying my biochem notes. Good thing I have been really diligent last weekend and studied for my exams in advance. Hope I accomplish that as well for next week...but no more sleeping as long as I haven't finished studying. Kasi naman eh...hindi ako ginising.

My birthday celebration was like usual. I was really tired to even "celebrate" it. I treated some classmates for lunch at this Japanese resto near our school. It was fun although we waited long for the food. Imagine, for a less than 150 pesos order, you get 2 trays of food. Package includes rice, soup, pasta, a main course, side dish, another viand, dessert, and iced tea. I was really full after. At the celebration here at home, we had too many food to last us the whole week. Yeah...there's still some at the fridge. We had two kinds of pasta (carbonara and Italian spag), baked macaroni, lechon, steamed tilapia, roasted chicken, green mangoes with bagoong, bananas, choco cake, and fruit salad.

Anyway, so there...sana matapos na ang exams. I need time off for myself. I'm making no sense again.

...wishes...

It's my birthday tomorrow! :D

...wala lang...

I'll be having a party at home tomorrow...I think it's also a VERY LATE grad celeb as well. Do come if you know where I live...and if I personally know you. :)

I already did lots of shopping today...mostly lingerie. ;) Iba na eh...since I'm wearing uniforms already, I care less about buying new shirts, pants, or havs. I'd be doing more [shopping] for the next few days. The lingerie department in Sta. Lucia is so limited.

I finally got to buy something that I've been eyeing for a long time (about 2 years na) in a store. Haha! :D Talk about wishing and finally getting what you want. It's not lingerie.

Hmm...maybe if I wish hard enough, Papa will finally get me a car. Three years delayed and counting. He got another brochure awhile ago. It's Ford. Sheesh!

One last wish...eat Peking duck. I've been craving lately. =p

***

Got another star in my name. Dunno if this is real...but heck! I've got a star before as well. A gift from Astrology.com...one of those sites I have subscribed to. This one's gonna be the last I guess. One star for each customer policy. This one happens to be on Cancer constellation pala. :)

crazy days

Crazy, crazy couple of days.

First, it made me wonder of our government's efficiency. One can learn from mistakes but you can never ALWAYS learn from mistakes.

Imagine, announcing a suspension of classes just when it's already midday and you're already in school, stressed from commuting in heavy downpour. Pampalubag-loob. They announced an earlier suspension of classes for Thursday and Friday. Then, crazy government we got announced a retraction from a previous statement of no classes for Friday.

So those kinds of minds lead the people.

Wednesday was one crazy day. Going to classes despite the heavy rain. Going to LRT Santolan and finding out that they're in code red. People there ask you to proceed to LRT Katipunan. Yeah right!

I actually saw the lightning struck somewhere along the railroad tracks and remembered asking my dad if they have some sort of lightning rod for safety. Nah! The lightning started it all. It was no show.

I asked my dad (who happened to be near Katips already as he's bringing my sis to school too) to go back. I asked to be dropped at LRT Anonas instead because the line was long at Katips. I didn't want to be drenced outside anyway. But no! I went to Anonas and was kept waiting in line because the platform was full na raw. So I waited...and waited. After 15 minutes or so, with some people complaining and the line being long already, they announced that there was no train already. Kainis diba? Glad that my dad called to ask if I was okay.

So, in the end, my dad brought me to school. I was late for like 30 mins and I barely understood my prof's lecture. Well, luckily, I had her references with me at home. Finally, some of the books here became useful.

The mock exam for Anatomy lab last Wednesday pushed through and I kinda liked the results.

It was a good thing that during those times that classes were suspended, I had fewer classes so there'd be fewer classes to make up for. Only 4 hours worth of lecture. They'll probably take our free time (ISPs) so boohoo!

Then, today wasn't anything different. I lacked the energy this morning because I slept late reading about anemia and jaundice. All in vain. Morning session was a Physio lab conference...was reprimanded by the preceptor for not being able to do the blood typing individually. I was just being honest. I kinda felt bad because it wasn't entirely my fault. I can pinpoint people who didn't actually do it anyway. But I felt bad again because I kinda dragged some of my groupmates into trouble. But I thank Meme and Richard for helping me out through the interrogation process. :)

After the ICS this afternoon, Cla helped me out for blood typing and all's well now. I'm a blood type O. Boring! I told you I'd rather steer away from the normal.

Then, just as I was about to go home, my bag self-destructed. Probably because of all the big, heavy books in it. Good thing that Ivy was there with me to help me carry some books until I was able to ride in an FX.

Moral of the story then? Just when the day seems so dull, there'll always be people popping up to help you.

I'm very thankful.

and then...a week later...

I'm still alive...and posting only during weekends.

This is med life after all.

Several things have broken down and have gotten repaired this week. The new cam my dad bought me malfunctioned so he brought it back to the store. A brand new one's back home again. The flash disk I've been using (which is actually my dad's) got some sort of bug and after numerous formatting, it's back to it's tip top shape (123MB though). My PC broke down as well...all's to blame on me for making too careless kalikot on it's system. Oh well...after formatting (again), it's back to normal, with all files in backup. So all's well. Really.

I keep getting these emails about someone dying and that I can get part of their millions. They're getting irritating already. They flood my email ALWAYS!

I started wearing my uniform already. A week of tortured feet...all because of damn closed shoes. I'm missing my havies. I got to wear them today though...as I treaded water in dirty Manila area. I actually went to Bambang to buy my med stuff...and got my pink stethoscope, mind you. It was raining heavily but I had to go there because I have exams for the next few weeks and there'll be no other time to go there. Fortunately, my mom and I made it back home just in time before the flood came.

I used to like being a doctor all because of their white frocks and now, I've come to realize the difficulty of it all. Aside from the rain, I have to worry next about my upcoming period. Haha! The hassle of being a woman.

Speaking of periods, we've been dealing with a lot of blood this week...due to the hematology module. I should have tried the blood typing thing yesterday because I really don't know my blood type. Hehe! :D Weird that in this family, only my sister's sure of her blood type.

I'm starting to like med school in a way. Like buying lunch from Ate Marissa and eating in special airconditioned rooms. Last Thursday, we ate at Histo Lab and even watched TV. Yeah...I saw "Game Ka Na Ba?" wherein the lady shouted out "Atras ako!" instead of "Abante". I filled the lab with laughter. I used to talk about people wearing their nameplates in public and wonder whether they like people seeing their names. It's like Ateneans wearing their IDs in public. Yup! UP people talk about them. However, now, I find some sort of liking in wearing my nameplate because it distinguishes me from everyone else...nursing students most especially. Sheesh! I'm feeling the need for uniqueness here. In school, seeing all those people wearing white, the need to be different can be too great. I'm not much of a conformist.

Now I better end here. Have things to do. Again.
